Click on the “get started” button below to set-up a 15-minute complimentary phone consultation. During the consultation, we will gather background information and discuss your concerns regarding your child’s communication skills to determine if our services are appropriate for your child and family.
We offer both in-home and teletherapy sessions during the week, including daytime and after school hours, to accommodate your family’s schedule and location. In-home sessions available in the areas surrounding Forney, Sunnyvale, Mesquite, Rockwall, Heath, Terrell, Kaufman, and Crandall.
Once an evaluation is completed, we will determine if therapy services are the next step for your child and develop a personalized treatment plan. Through 1:1 therapy sessions, we will coach you and your child to enhance their skills to express themselves in the world around them.
Treatment for articulation disorders and phonological processing disorders focuses on correcting specific sounds and/or sound error patterns in order to help the child speak clearly and to help others understand their speech.
Treatment for language disorders or delays focuses on improving the child’s understanding and use of words and phrases, answering questions, grammar, and additional areas of communication relating to sharing ideas and understanding what others are saying to them. Early childhood language therapy focuses on developing first words, increasing understanding and use of vocabulary, and communicating wants and needs.
Treatment for fluency disorders, such as stuttering, focuses on creating awareness of smooth speech versus “bumpy” speech and learning strategies to decrease stuttering moments and increase speech fluency.
Parent coaching involves training and guidance to empower you to support your child’s speech and language skills and encourage communication development everyday.
Hello, my name is Sabra Hensley, I am a certified Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and owner of Prickly Pear Speech Therapy. I have been practicing Speech Pathology for 17 years and I’ve worked in a variety of settings including public schools, home health, clinics, and providing virtual therapy. I graduated from Texas Christian University in 2007 with a Master of Science degree in Speech-Language Pathology. I am currently licensed in the state of Texas to practice Speech Pathology and have a Certificate of Clinical Competence through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). I love working with children and their families to help them connect with others through communication.
I started Prickly Pear Speech Therapy to give families and children the tools they need to share their wants, needs, and ideas, and to be successful in their endeavors. As a mom, I know what it’s like when you have no idea what your child is trying to tell you and the frustration that can bring for the child and the parent. I have also seen how improving and supporting communication skills can positively impact a child’s development and their work at school. I want to help you and your child break down any barriers that are in the way of communication and open up their world to them. I would love the opportunity to work with you.
